UAW strike and supply chain news – What will the impact of the UAW strike have on the automotive supply chain?

Sep 18, 2023

According to AP, roughly 10% of the country’s unionized auto workers – members of the United Auto Workers union (UAW) – went on strike Friday simultaneously against the nation’s top three automakers. This is unprecedented in that normally the union has bargained with one automaker at a time.

Their issues? Wages and other compensation, along with job security.

The focus of the strike is three plants: a GM factory in Missouri; a Ford factory in Michigan; and a Jeep plant in Ohio.

The UAW says it may strike at more plants if the automakers don’t present better offers.

Needless to say, if these strikes last very long, or if they expand, this will put a crunch on the automotive supply chain.
