TIA releases sustainability whitepaper for logistics professionals

Sep 07, 2023

The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the premier organization for third-party logistics professionals, today released a Sustainability Whitepaper. This whitepaper was developed by TIA’s Shipper Committee, and will act as a valuable resource and guide for third party logistics professionals as they navigate the transition to low-carbon transportation.

“There is no doubt that sustainable goals and initiatives will continue to shape and impact the logistics industry,” said Anne Reinke, TIA President and CEO. “We want TIA members and industry professionals to have the research, insights and information they need to make informed decisions that will have a positive impact on the environment. We hope this whitepaper does just that, and helps logistics professionals confidently navigate the sustainable transportation movement.”

TIA’s Sustainability Whitepaper explores the challenges and opportunities faced by transportation providers in response to the global shift toward low-carbon and sustainable practices. Many manufacturers and retailers are setting ambitious sustainability goals, driven by factors such as government regulations and consumer demand for eco-friendly products. The whitepaper addresses the risks and complexities of meeting these goals, looking at everything from added costs to emissions reporting.

One of the whitepaper’s biggest takeaways is that products with environmental, social and governance claims are growing faster than those without. TIA found that although shippers are increasingly seeking greener transport, they are concerned about the pricing gap with conventional services. The whitepaper covers areas like intermodal transport, private fleets, dedicated fleets and electric trucks, and even includes quotes from logistics professionals on how sustainability is impacting their companies.
