JAXPORT receives economic impact award from Northeast Florida manufacturers association

Oct 02, 2020

The First Coast Manufacturers Association (FCMA) recently recognized JAXPORT with the 2020 Economic Impact Award during its annual Excellence Awards program.

The award recognizes JAXPORT as Northeast Florida’s economic engine, growing opportunities for area manufacturers by connecting their businesses to the global economy.

FCMA noted that JAXPORT’s growth has resulted in an increase in area port-related jobs and that the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening project will create new opportunities for Northeast Florida businesses.

Cargo activity through Jacksonville’s seaport supports 138,000 jobs in Florida and more than $31 billion in annual economic output for the region and state.

“Logistics is the economic driver for manufacturing and JAXPORT plays a vital role in the movement of raw materials and finished goods for manufacturers throughout the region,” said FCMA President Lake Ray. “CEO Eric Green and the rest of JAXPORT’s leadership are very understanding about the needs of the manufacturing community and how port growth helps our businesses grow and succeed.”

According to FCMA, there are over 1,100 manufacturing companies in Northeast Florida supplying over 34,000 jobs and generating nearly 15 percent of the total gross regional product.

JAXPORT is Florida’s No. 1 container port, the nation’s second-busiest vehicle handling port, and one of the most diversified ports in the country. The port offers competitive transit times to 140 ports in more than 70 countries with service aboard the world’s major ocean carrier alliances.
