Port of Long Beach launches Green Truck Corridor to Mexico

one hour ago

The Port of Long Beach officially recognized Bali Express Services’ proactive efforts to establish a Green Truck Corridor between Long Beach and Mexico.

Port of Long Beach CEO Dr. Noel Hacegaba and Long Beach Harbor Commissioners joined Jacobeth Hernández Mendoza, Consul for Economic Affairs for the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles, and Bali Express Services Company Director Juan Baez in commemorating the company’s commitment to using clean trucks to move cargo along a route spanning roughly 125 miles between the Port and Mexico, the United States' largest trading partner.

Hacegaba spoke about the significance of U.S.-Mexico trade, with two-way commerce reaching a record $872.83 billion annually. Nearly 90% of that trade occurs on land, most of it via truck, he added.

"This is why initiatives like these matter and are making a difference," Hacegaba said.

Over the past year, Bali has moved cargo between the Port of Long Beach and Bali Express’ facility in San Diego County and across the Mexican border by using a combination of compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicle trucks. The company, which currently operates 32 CNG and six EV trucks, plans to secure an additional 20 CNGs and 20 EVs this year, including Tesla Semi trucks, Baez said.

“I applaud Bali Express Services for their vision and leadership in incorporating green technology into their business model,” Hacegaba said. “These valuable partnerships are critical to our winning strategy. As we build the Port of the Future, partnerships like this will help us meet the challenges of tomorrow by deploying zero-emissions trucks and building greater connectivity across borders.”

Weissman and Bali Express Services Company Director Juan Baez with a specially designed truck-shaped cake commemorating the occasion. “Having supply chain partners such as Bali Express Services is critical to our zero-emissions mission,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Frank Colonna. “Bali Express’ efforts will result in cleaner air along a busy international trade route.”

Baez reinforced Bali Express’ commitment to green trucking by announcing the company’s investment in EV trucks. Baez said the company’s goal is to operate a fully zero-emissions fleet of more than 350 trucks by 2040.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Port of Long Beach,” Baez said. “In the last 12 months alone, Bali's green operations were equivalent to removing 1,930 vehicles from the road. We want to show the world that we can green our trucking operations and be a successful business.”

The Port of Long Beach supports supply chain partners who have made significant strides in greening their operations. Earlier this month, the Port announced the Zero-Emission Truck Early Leaders Award, which rewards businesses that were the first to adopt zero-emissions trucks to serve marine terminals. Bali Express Services is among the 43 companies eligible for the award.

Last month, the Port of Long Beach signed a memorandum of understanding with The Wonderful Company and Lincoln Transportation Services to establish the world’s first port-powered Green Truck Corridor connecting Long Beach with the Central Valley over the span of roughly 150 miles.

The Port of Long Beach is building the Port of the Future, guided by its bold new 2050 vision and a plan to double current container volumes to 20 million annually by 2050. By strategically modernizing the Port’s infrastructure with $3.3 billion in capital investments over the next decade and developing digital systems to dramatically enhance efficiency and visibility, the Port is also becoming the world’s first zero-emissions port. Today the Port moves cargo valued at $300 billion a year and generates 2.7 million jobs across the U.S., as it continues to lead the world on sustainability programs and plans to double those benefits by doubling volume. As one of only 18 commercial strategic seaports in the U.S. with a duty to support force deployment during national defense emergencies, a community partner that offers $3 million per year in sponsorships for local nonprofits and a major catalyst for workforce development creating opportunities for students far and wide, the Port is well-positioned for even higher achievements. After all, industry leaders named Long Beach “The Best West Coast Seaport in North America” for a seventh consecutive year and “The Best Green Seaport” in 2025. The Port of Long Beach. Always open. Always moving.
