Yunex Traffic and Autotalks announce enhanced privacy and security capabilities in V2X roadside units

Yunex Traffic and Autotalks are announcing enhanced privacy and security capabilities which are available on Yunex Traffic’s RSU2X Roadside Units, powered by Autotalks chipsets. The security capabilities’ interoperability was tested during the OmniAir certification process, a critical requirement for deployment in the United States.

Ensuring user privacy is at the forefront of the technology partnership between Yunex Traffic and Autotalks. The RSU2X units fully comply with the North America Security Credential Management System (SCMS), which is crucial to ensure trusted communication. Autotalks’ Gen2 chipsets are uniquely designed to anonymize communications by decoupling messages from user identities and avoiding the storage of private information. This level of privacy is achieved through an integrated true random number generator that dynamically generates pseudo-user identities, maintaining complete privacy for individuals on the road.

Autotalks sets a new benchmark in V2X security with its embedded Hardware Security Module (HSM), which holds Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 and other certifications. These credentials affirm that private keys are securely managed within the device, ensuring that sensitive assets remain fully protected. This is essential for preventing unauthorized access and maintaining trust in connected vehicle networks.

The chipset’s advanced hardware accelerators validate incoming messages in real-time, allowing only trusted data to be processed. Importantly, the Autotalks chipset architecture is completely isolated from other communication links, such as cellular networks, safeguarding the V2X environment from potential remote cyberattacks.

The deployment of Yunex Traffic’s RSU2X units, equipped with Autotalks’ technology, facilitates seamless communication between vehicles and infrastructure. The system supports a wide range of mobility applications, from bus and emergency vehicle prioritization to the real-time detection of pedestrians and vulnerable road users, significantly enhancing road safety and operational efficiency. More than 500 RSU2X units have been deployed across several states, including California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and North Carolina, with additional deployments planned.

As an essential part of Connected Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS), the RSU2X units seamlessly integrate into highways, city roads, and bike lanes. Paired with Yunex Traffic’s OBU2X On-Board Units—which have recently achieved FCC, PTCRB, and AT&T certifications and are powered by Autotalks’ chipsets—these systems work together to enable adaptive traffic management, reduce traffic accidents, and lower emissions. This collaboration lays the groundwork for safer, more connected roads while advancing the future of autonomous driving.

The rollout of these V2X solutions in the United States aligns with recent government efforts, including advanced technology grants that promote safety and efficiency in transportation. Yunex Traffic’s V2X-enabled systems are set to play a significant role in achieving these goals, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure that prioritizes user privacy without compromising on security.

Onn Haran, Founder and CTO of Autotalks, stated: "At Autotalks, our vision is rooted in ensuring that security and privacy are paramount in V2X communications. Direct V2X technology is essential for building a trusted ecosystem, and we are committed to providing the confidence of security and privacy in all our solutions. Our collaboration with Yunex Traffic exemplifies this commitment, as we work together to enhance road safety while safeguarding user data."
