VIKAND has announced that its Air Purification System, powered by the Pyure Technology®, is delivering measurable energy savings and emissions reductions across the global fleet, supporting shipowners in meeting decarbonization targets.

HVAC systems are among the largest onboard energy consumers, accounting for up to 50% of total usage. VIKAND’s patented solution increases the recirculation of clean air, reducing the need for energy-intensive intake of hot, humid outside air. This lowers HVAC load, engine demand, and fuel consumption, resulting in significant carbon reductions.

A recent deployment aboard a large cruise vessel showed an 8% drop in HVAC compressor energy use, translating to daily fuel savings of over six tons and annual reductions exceeding 2,300 tons of heavy fuel oil, equivalent to approximately $750,000 in cost savings per ship. Beyond the direct financial and environmental benefits, the reduced strain on HVAC systems also extends maintenance intervals, decreases wear on mechanical components, and further improves overall vessel efficiency.

“This is a scalable solution with immediate impact,” said Mattias Hallberg, Director of Technical Solutions at VIKAND. “It improves vessel efficiency, supports ESG goals, and enhances onboard wellbeing.”

In addition to energy efficiency, the system eliminates up to 99.9999% of airborne and surface pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, mold, and volatile organic compounds in the air and on surfaces. This technology helps operators address two of the industry’s most pressing challenges: protecting people and the planet.
