Tideworks advances terminal modernization at Port of Miami

Mar 18, 2026

Tideworks Technology, Inc. (Tideworks), announced the go-live of Mainsail 10 and Spinnaker at Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company (POMTOC), a key cargo gateway serving South Florida and global markets. The cloud-based deployment advances POMTOC’s broader terminal modernization strategy, enhancing operational efficiency, scalability, and reliability to support higher volumes and smoother cargo movement.

POMTOC deployed the latest versions of Tideworks’ TOS, equipped with modern, user-friendly features and robust security standards. Designed with a flexible integration framework, the platform supports standardized APIs, allowing POMTOC to easily exchange data with third-party systems, terminal equipment, and partner platforms.

Integrating Mainsail 10 with Spinnaker provides enhanced command tools, configurable workflows, and real-time visibility for equipment dispatchers and mobile client users. Delivered through a cloud-based subscription model and hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the deployment advances POMTOC’s modernization roadmap by moving critical terminal systems to a scalable cloud environment. This transition enhances data security and reduces on-site infrastructure requirements, enabling the team to focus on day-to-day terminal operations and efficiently scale to handle higher cargo volumes.

“This implementation represents an important step in POMTOC’s modernization strategy and reflects how strategic technology investments can strengthen terminal operations,” said Subbu Bhat, VP of engineering and interim president at Tideworks. “Together, we’ve delivered a modern, secure platform that enhances performance and extends POMTOC’s role as a key gateway for South Florida.”

These implementations complement Tideworks’ long-standing solutions at POMTOC, including GateVision®, the company’s gate operating system, and EDI Porter, Tideworks’ EDI program management and translation tool. Together, the integrated, extensible platform provides comprehensive operational oversight from gate to yard to vessel.

“This go-live represents a significant milestone in our ongoing terminal modernization strategy and underscores our commitment to serving as a reliable trade gateway,” said Gerard van den Heuvel, CEO of POMTOC. “With more than two decades of collaboration, we are proud to continue working closely with Tideworks and investing in technology and systems that enable us to move cargo more efficiently and better serve our global customers.”

Tideworks provided all professional services for the deployment and upgrades, including project management, system configuration, installation, user acceptance training, and hybrid onsite and remote go-live support. Tideworks will continue to deliver ongoing support services following the successful go-live.

Looking ahead, POMTOC plans to expand its modernization efforts with the implementation of Tideworks’ Traffic Control equipment execution system. Traffic Control will streamline container handling, reduce unproductive moves and improve yard efficiency through real-time equipment dispatch and coordination. The system builds on the foundation established by Mainsail 10 and Spinnaker, further strengthening POMTOC’s ability to support growing cargo volumes and deliver reliable service to its customers.
