Magaya Corporation, a leading logistics and supply chain software provider, has successfully modernized its database infrastructure with Tessell’s managed PostgreSQL solution. By addressing critical performance gaps and operational risks, Magaya achieved a tenfold improvement in database performance, reduced upgrade costs by 83%, and maintained 99.99% application availability, all while meeting aggressive private equity (PE) return-on-investment (ROI) targets.
Following its 2023 acquisition by a PE firm, Magaya faced significant pressure to transition customers from its legacy Classic system to Blue Ivory, a next-generation, multi-tenant platform designed for scalability and long-term growth. However, the migration encountered roadblocks when Blue Ivory’s initial database performance failed to meet expectations. To resolve these issues, Magaya partnered with Tessell to optimize its PostgreSQL environment and enable seamless cloud scalability on AWS.
Magaya’s modernization efforts were initially hindered by several obstacles. Blue Ivory’s PostgreSQL database was not optimized for high-volume queries, causing severe performance bottlenecks. A custom-built Reservation Service, designed to replicate the legacy system’s pessimistic-locking behavior, added excessive processing overhead, further slowing transactions. Additionally, the company relied on a single PostgreSQL expert, creating a significant operational risk. Customers transitioning to Blue Ivory also reported slower response times compared to the legacy system, jeopardizing adoption.

By leveraging Tessell’s managed PostgreSQL platform, Magaya transformed Blue Ivory into a high-performance, scalable solution. Query execution speeds improved tenfold, allowing logistics operations to process tens of thousands of rows per second. Tessell’s multi-Availability Zone (Multi-AZ) architecture eliminated downtime risks, ensuring continuous operations. The AWS migration was seamless, with Tessell fine-tuning partitioning strategies, memory buffers, and disk I/O to maximize database efficiency. Operational risks were significantly reduced as Tessell’s 24/7 expert support replaced the need for a single in-house DBA, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted database management.
With these optimizations, Magaya’s Blue Ivory platform is now fully equipped for long-term growth. The elimination of performance bottlenecks has accelerated customer onboarding, making migrations smoother and faster. The platform now supports both multi-tenant and single-tenant deployments, allowing Magaya to efficiently scale for businesses of all sizes. Most importantly, the transition to a cost-optimized, cloud-native solution has enabled Magaya to meet PE investors’ ROI expectations, securing its profitability and growth trajectory.
“The PostgreSQL cluster performance we’re seeing with Tessell is beyond belief. It has enabled Magaya to move forward with our application modernization projects in a way that was previously not financially possible,” said Niten Jaiswal, Vice President of Engineering at Magaya.
By partnering with Tessell, Magaya has not only modernized its database infrastructure but has also solidified its position as a leader in logistics and supply chain technology. With a high-performance, scalable platform, the company is well-positioned to support its expanding customer base and drive continued innovation.
