Team UP’s recovery efforts continue after Tropical Storms Hilary, Harold

Union Pacific crews are working around-the-clock to address the impacts of powerful Tropical Storm Hilary, a rare West Coast storm whose heavy rains flooded tracks and suspended service in Southern California.

As record-breaking amounts of rain hit the coast, Union Pacific’s Engineering and Operating teams safely took proactive measures, staging rail ballast and panels, electric generators and personnel in the impacted areas. Team members quickly repaired damaged track and bridges, and service was restored along the Yuma and Mojave subdivisions Aug. 23. Track work continues on the Lone Pine Subdivision as of Aug. 24. All three Union Pacific routes into the Los Angeles Basin are now open.

High winds and rainfall also reached the Gulf Coast Aug. 22 when Tropical Storm Harold made landfall in South Texas. Union Pacific continues to address a submerged five-mile stretch of track near Corpus Christi, Texas.
