Multi-modal Transportation of heavy reactors for refinery expansion project in India

Jun 08, 2023

Total Movements, member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India, has added another feather in its cap with the safe and timely delivery of two HDT reactors with 32 metres long and 360 ton weight each from suppliers works on the West Coast of India to the delivery site in Bihar through four different modes of transport, i.e., road, sea, river and road covering more than 5000 km.

This complex move was fraught with many challenges through its movement. To name a few here:
1. Timely deployment of heavy lift barges and heavy lift vessel.
2. Double banking operation at both Mumbai and Kolkata Ports.
3. Waterway movement in the Ganges River.
4. Jetty and approach road construction.
5. Permissions from multiple agencies at multiple locations and levels.
