Circle S.p.A. (“CIRCLE” or the “Company”) - an Innovative SME listed on the Euronext Growth Milan market, heading the Group specialized in the process analysis and the development of solutions for the digitalization of the port and intermodal logistics sectors, as well as in the international consultancy on Green Deal and energy transition topics – announces its participation in AutoMoTIF event, which took place on May 6 and 7 2025, organized by Magli Intermodal Service (MIS) at the intermodal terminal in Montirone (BS). The initiative is part of the European AutoMoTIF project, which studies, through simulation, the impact of the introduction of automation in logistics processes.
Circle supported the realization of the event by reinforcing its commitment alongside MIS in the innovation of the intermodal sector and actively contributing to Use Case 3 (UC3), dedicated to rail shunting/shunting at the Montirone terminal. Collaborating on this case study there are also Mosaic and Eurnex, the latter focusing on KPI analysis.
Within the AutoMoTIF project, Magellan Circle, affiliated entity of Circle, plays a strategic role as leader of Work Package 5, ‘Develop AutoMoTIF Communication Strategy’, aimed at communicating the project's objectives, activities, results and impacts, with the aim of promoting the dissemination of best practices and actively involving the European scientific and industrial community. Magellan Circle also participates in Work Package 6, dedicated to the internal coordination of the project.
The event is part of a long-term cooperation between MIS - a leading group for the logistics of steel and metal products, active both as a terminal operator and as Multimodal Transport Operator - and Circle, which has provided the Milos® advanced platform for the digitalization of terminal operations and intermodal transport.
In particular, this cooperation has resulted in the implementation of the Milos® TOS solution, dedicated to the management of the operations of the Montirone terminal, which allows the simplification of the procedures related to the gates, the yard and the loading and unloading of trains. This is flanked by Milos® RAIL MTO, designed for multimodal transport operators, which allows commercial, operational and administrative processes to be digitalized in an integrated manner, contributing to a significant improvement in overall performance.
Circle and Magellan Circle's contribution to the AutoMoTIF project reflects the Group's commitment to the development of intelligent, interoperable and sustainable solutions for the future of intermodal transport in Europe.
Speakers at the event included Julia Kosiek, WP5 Leader for Magellan Circle, and Costanza Chiesa, Optimization Model Specialist, who gave an overview of the importance of strategic communication and the value of automation in logistics processes.
‘During the event we will illustrate the UC3 advancements, in particular the architecture designed for the implementation of the simulation, which was built thanks to the valuable operational input provided by MIS. The simulation will allow us to study the impact of the introduction of automation in the railway shunting processes within the intermodal terminal of Montirone. In particular, we will analyze the planned modules and their connection, highlighting how each component contributes to faithfully reproduce the complexity of real operations’, said Costanza Chiesa, Optimization Model Specialist at Circle Group.
''During the General Assembly, we will discuss the current progress within the Automotif project. In Automotif, we ensure that communication and dissemination are at the highest possible level. Dissemination is a crucial part of every project, as it allows us to effectively showcase and promote our results.'', added Julia Kosiek, WP5 Leader for Magellan Circle.
