Bolloré Logistics automates its Miami hub with the acquisition of 3 VLMs

Bolloré Logistics, a global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, is introducing automation capabilities in its Miami Hub with the acquisition of three Vertical Lift Modules (VLM). VLM is an automated solution aimed at maximizing storage space and optimizing the picking process. Integrated with its existing Warehouse Management System (WMS), the VLM will replace conventional shelving units and will allow to handle B2B and B2C activities for three different customers, improving throughput by 3 to 5 times.

The technology will enhance operational capabilities, offering up to 85 percent more efficiency compared to traditional storage solutions. It will also allow a reduction in retrieval times by more than 70 percent, as well as a decrease in inventory inaccuracies by up to 99 percent, and an overall boost in productivity of up to 35 percent.

VLM systems employ a combination of computer-controlled motors, highly sensitive sensors and intuitive software interfaces to deliver multifaceted benefits, including optimized operational workflows, reduced costs, and enhanced customer satisfaction through faster delivery times and heightened service quality. Moreover, VLM systems provide enhanced security for stored items, reduce the risk of inventory damage, and improve ergonomics by delivering items to an optimal retrieval height, thereby minimizing the risk of workplace injuries.

Opened in 2017, the Miami Hub is a 200,000 square-foot, foreign trade zone facility. It consolidates freight forwarding and contract logistics activities to respond to the needs of beauty, luxury, healthcare, aerospace and travel retail customers importing and exporting to Latin America and the Caribbean. A LEED Gold certified facility, the facility also incorporates sustainable features: non-toxic building materials, water use reduction with high-efficiency flush, LED fixtures for interior lighting energy savings, designated parking spots for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles.
