XLP member, Heavy Industry Logistics relocates 74MW diesel power plant across Africa

Jul 18, 2025

In July 2024, Heavy Industry Logistics Ltd, in partnership with Advantis - Project Logistics, successfully initiated the relocation of the Kipevu II 74MW diesel power plant from Mombasa, Kenya, to new sites in Senegal and Mali. The large-scale project required complex coordination and technical precision, marking a major milestone in cross-border energy infrastructure logistics.

The Kipevu II relocation project involved the transportation of over 90 containers, 4,512 freight tons of breakbulk cargo, and seven diesel engines, each weighing 120 metric tons. This ambitious move underscores the capabilities of Heavy Industry Logistics in managing high-volume, high-value energy sector projects under tight schedules and strict safety protocols.

The massive diesel engines and equipment were loaded onto the MV Janis, a vessel equipped to handle oversized and heavy-lift cargo. The team worked around the clock to ensure proper loading, secure lashing, and cargo safety in preparation for the ocean voyage to West Africa.

“This operation reflects our commitment to providing tailored logistics solutions for complex industrial projects.”

“From heavy-lift handling to international coordination, every stage of this project demanded accuracy, planning, and resilience—qualities our team consistently delivers.”

The power plant’s relocation supports sustainable energy infrastructure development across Senegal and Mali, making it a strategically significant operation with regional impact. Working alongside Advantis - Project Logistics, the project demonstrates how collaborative logistics partnerships can deliver exceptional results across continents.
