Trucking Association of New York receives Mike Russell Image Award

Oct 29, 2025

The Trucking Association of New York was honored by the American Trucking Association as a recipient of the organization’s Mike Russell Image Award. The Mike Russell Trucking Image Award recognizes individuals, motor carriers, and trucking organizations that exemplify the industry’s essential role, professionalism, and dedication to safety both on and off the road.

In naming TANY as a recipient of the award, the ATA cited TANY’s Community Supervision initiative which has helped more than 55 individuals obtain their Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) since 2023. Careers in New York’s trucking industry not only provide a stable, well-paying job, but also an opportunity for growth and an ability to help keep New York running. Statewide, the trucking industry employs 327,540 New Yorkers, representing 1 out of every 25 jobs in New York. In 2023, the industry’s payroll exceeded $22.5 billion, with an average annual trucking industry salary of $68,588.

Additionally, the ATA touted TANY’s funding and support for the Transportation Club at the Charter School for Applied Technologies High School in Buffalo. The partnership, ongoing since 2018, has provided high school students in Buffalo with real exposure to careers in the trucking industry, helping to prepare them for their careers wherever life takes them. These initiatives are supported by TANY’s Shay Legacy Foundation, which aims to create comprehensive workforce development programs to develop a thriving trucking industry in New York.

In a statement, ATA COO, Dan Horvath said: “These individuals have seamlessly woven positivity into their everyday lives, creating a ripple effect that touches countless others. Today, we're proud to expand that list to 66, with two new recipients. These recipients embody ATA's commitment to promoting a positive image of trucking. Their applications stood out as powerful examples of how storytelling, leadership, and innovation can shape public perception and inspire meaningful change.”
