Tips for Shipping A Car Safely

Jul 07, 2020

If you are moving to another state, or even to another country, and you want to take your car with you, you might want to have it shipped. This will save you having to drive it, which would take a lot longer than if you were to take a flight to your new home. You can arrive safe and sound at your destination, and your car can come along later. It’s an ideal scenario, but there are some things you need to consider to ship your car safely. Read on to find out more.

Store Your Car Safely

There might be some time between you moving and settling in and deciding to have your car shipped; in fact, it’s often a wise idea to leave some time between these events. You will have a lot to deal with once you move home, especially if you are moving far away from where you were, and adding a car’s arrival and then having to deal with taking care of it and maintaining it can be too much to start with.

If this is the case, or if you’re not moving permanently and you decide not to bring your car at all, you should put it in storage. Many specialist car storage companies will take care of this for you, and by checking out cheap car storage units online, you are sure to find something that suits.

Get It Tuned Up

The last thing that you want is for your car to arrive and not work as it should. Ideally, although you are going to be busy, you should take it to a qualified mechanic to give it a once over and tune the engine up so that you know it is in the best condition.

This is more important if you are planning to store your car for a little while (or even longer) because when cars are left to sit, the engines can become damaged. Ensuring everything was working perfectly before you leave means you stand the best chance of having a perfectly working car when it arrives with you in your destination too.

Research the Shipping Company

You will also need to find a good shipping company to transport your car to you after you have settled into your new home and you’re ready to receive your vehicle. Don’t just go for the least expensive (although of course, the cost will be a factor so you should create a budget) but do your research around your shortlisted transport companies.

Make sure you look at other people’s reviews and experiences of the company you might want to use; did the vehicle arrive safely? Was it on time? Was it damage in any way? Ask about any insurance the company has, and how they can ensure that your car is kept as safe as possible. Speak to each potential company and interview them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or request to see documentation to prove they have the insurance they say they do; this is your vehicle, and it must remain undamaged when being shipped.
