TIA participates in House of Representatives supply-chain round-table

Nov 04, 2021

Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) released the following statement following their participation at a closed-door House Transportation & Infrastructure Republican Members roundtable discussion on the supply-chain disruption and how 3PLs are assisting in these efforts.

On behalf of the TIA and our 1,800 member companies, we are pleased to have been selected to join the roundtable discussion focused on de-congesting the supply chain and boosting the American economy. The current situation is unsustainable and Americans from coast to coast are feeling the pressure as we enter the Holiday season. Employment is down and inflation is up in our country.

President and CEO, Anne Reinke says this on the selection to participate, “TIA members have a vast knowledge of the supply chain expertise in transportation data and trends, and multi-modal reach and visibility. As such, TIA will provide critical insights into current supply chain bottlenecks and solutions to help turn this economy around.”

Today, nearly 70 ships are waiting outside the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in California and the congestion continues to slow down the movement of freight. It is crucial that we turn around the policies that are leading to these congestions, whether those be labor, environmental, or transportation. There is no coincidence that today unemployment is at a high and the ports remain in gridlock.

Vice-President of Government Affairs, Chris Burroughs who represented TIA at the roundtable says this on the invitation, “As the premier organization representing supply chain logistics companies, TIA is honored to share our views and supports the Republican Members of the T&I Committee for hosting this roundtable and identifying regulations and law that may be hindering the supply-chain. These challenges for 3PLs vary from a driver shortage, an attack on the independent contractor model, overreaching environmental regulations, and a broken and non-existent motor carrier safety rating and carrier selection process.”

TIA’s members are third-party logistics companies that facilitate freight from the manufacturer or shipper to the motor carriers and other modes. TIA members were deemed essential during this COVID-19 pandemic and have been instrumental in the distribution of the vaccine.
