Royal Cargo completes time-critical 75-ton rotor shipment to Japan

Royal Cargo, a proud member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) for The Philippines, completed the time-critical heavy lift shipment of a 75-ton gas turbine rotor from Batangas, Philippines, to Hyogo, Japan, for repair. Packed in a rotor casing, the oversized cargo measured approximately 10.60 meters long, 3.70 meters wide, and 3.40 meters high. Given its weight and dimensions, the move required a specialized project logistics plan covering heavy lift coordination, breakbulk vessel arrangements, barge solutions, documentation management, and destination support in Japan.

At origin, Royal Cargo’s Projects & Heavy Lift team had to address several site-level challenges. The rotor was stored in a warehouse where the overhead crane was not certified for the lift. To safely prepare the unit for transport, Royal Cargo fabricated suitable jacking pads and loaded the rotor via jacking onto a trailer for movement to the site jetty. The cargo was then transported to the site jetty, where it was rolled onto a barge for sailing to Batangas Port. At Batangas Port, export customs clearance was completed before the rotor was loaded onto the heavy lift vessel for the voyage to Kobe, Japan.

Timing was a key part of the operation. The origin-side movement had to be completed within a narrow window, as the rotor needed to reach Japan within the first week of April 2026 to secure its repair slot, making every stage of the origin operation critical from warehouse preparation and trailer movement to barge transfer, port clearance, and vessel loading. Operating under DAP (Delivered at Place) terms, the shipment departed Kobe Port and was scheduled to move by barge to the receiving facility in Hyogo. At the destination, customs clearance was handled by the consignee’s nominated broker, while Royal Cargo coordinated with the relevant parties to help keep the delivery timeline on track.
