netTALK Maritime announces partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to advance at-sea communication

Oct 03, 2023

netTALK Maritime, a leading provider of communication intelligence solutions for the maritime industry, today announces its strategic partnership with SpaceX's Starlink, a pioneering satellite internet constellation. This exciting collaboration aims to revolutionize maritime connectivity by offering high-speed, low-latency internet solutions to cruise and commercial shipping customers worldwide.

netTALK Maritime specializes in delivering cutting-edge passenger and crew communication solutions to cruise lines and the broader maritime sector. Under this strategic partnership, netTALK Maritime will act as an account administrator, offering end-to-end solutions ranging from installation to network setup and support, along with comprehensive account management services.

The company will install satellite kits and provide ‘priority’ service plans designed for businesses and high-demand users, as well as ‘mobile priority’ service plans tailored for maritime, emergency response, and mobile businesses.

With the inclusion of Starlink services in its portfolio, netTALK Maritime will move beyond the constraints of traditional and costly satellite connectivity. Unlike most satellite internet services that rely on geostationary satellites orbiting at a distance of 35,786 km, Starlink operates a constellation of satellites much closer to Earth, at approximately 550 km, utilizing a laser mesh network for truly global coverage. This proximity significantly reduces latency, bringing it down to around 25 ms compared to the industry average of over 600ms in traditional systems.

With these updates, netTALK Maritime can elevate the onboard experience for passengers and crew members as telehealth services, online gaming, video calls, and other data-intensive activities will no longer be a struggle.

"Adding Starlink's high-speed satellite connectivity to our products onboard ships of all sizes greatly enhances our product offering and significantly improves passenger and crew communication experiences," said Garry Paxinos, CTO of netTALK Maritime.
