NATIONAL SHIPPING OF AMERICA marks fist decade serving Puerto Rico

Jun 20, 2023

"On June 7th, 2023 National Shipping of America (NSA) celebrated 10 years of providing shipping services to Puerto Rico. President Torey Presti reiterated the steady commitment and support from company owner Dr. CC Chen, and his son Randy Chen, from the early days to current operations which have extended to include Port Everglades in Florida."

This milestone comes shortly after a major vessel improvement investment by National Shipping to enhance the performance and efficiency of the M/V National Glory. The environmental regulations facing the industry as they relate to improving air and the oceans mandate major changes to vessels.

"We invested in new hatch covers for the National Glory at a cost of $2.2M, demonstrating our owner’s commitment to Puerto Rico and to the Jones Act”, said Torey Presti, President"
Shoreside, NSA pushes into the last stage of transition to Cargowise, a new cargo platform, and customer relations system to streamline the front- and back-office operations and processes.

“We continue to explore niche markets and trades that support Puerto Rico and nearby Caribbean destinations. While expanding the trade to include Port Everglades in 2021, NSA created a marine highway between Houston and South Florida + a direct call for South Florida freight to San Juan”, said Torey Presti, President
The thrust of the marine highway program is to take freight off the roads by offering a new economic, environmental alternative to move freight in a safe mode – via the ocean."

This year we are exploring a direct call at the Port of Ponce. From a strategic as well as commercial aspect, adding the Port of Ponce creates a gateway to the southern part of the island where key industrial use replaced the agrarian focus in the 1970’s.

Humanitarian Assistance

Also attending the 10-year party were members of the crew of the National Glory.

Captain Langford was joined by his key deck and engine officers at the celebration. Special recognition was given for the crew’s heroic rescues at sea. Over the course of 4 months, the National Glory performed 3 rescues at sea saving 43 refugees off the coast of Cuba.
