Korean airplane overruns runway while landing in Philippines

Korean Air Lines Co. plane overran the runway Sunday while attempting to land during bad weather in the Philippines.

No one was injured in the incident, and the 162 passengers on board were safely evacuated, Korean Air said. The Airbus A330-300 aircraft had previously attempted to land twice before overshooting the runway.

A “thorough” investigation will be held by local and Korean aviation authorities to determine the cause of the event, Korean Air President Woo Keehong said in an Instagram post.

The flight, KE631, took off from Seoul’s Incheon Airport earlier Sunday.

Data from Flightradar24, which tracks air traffic, showed the aircraft circling Mactan Cebu International Airport several times before attempting to land. Other flights for bound for Cebu have been diverted or returned to their origin, the data provider said.
