How India is emerging as a major hub for international courier and logistics services

May 22, 2026

India's international courier and logistics sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation, emerging as one of the most dynamic and fastest growing markets in the global logistics industry. Driven by explosive e-commerce growth, supportive government policies, and increasing cross border trade activity, India is rapidly positioning itself as a major hub for international courier and logistics services on the world stage.

The Indian logistics market is currently valued at over USD 250 billion and is projected to grow at approximately 10 to 12 percent annually over the next five years. The international courier segment alone has witnessed double-digit growth year on year as more Indian businesses explore export opportunities and more families send parcels to loved ones living abroad. India now ranks among the top five countries globally in terms of outbound international parcel volume, reflecting its deepening integration with global trade networks.

Several powerful forces are driving this remarkable growth. The explosion of e-commerce exports has pushed millions of small and medium enterprises across India to ship their products to customers in Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada, the UAE, and beyond. The Indian government has further accelerated this trend through the introduction of the National Logistics Policy, investments in dedicated freight corridors, airport cargo infrastructure upgrades, and significant simplification of customs procedures that have collectively reduced logistics costs and improved overall supply chain efficiency.

India's growing diaspora population of over 32 million people living outside the country contributes significantly to international courier volumes. This community maintains strong ties with family and friends back home and regularly sends and receives parcels, documents, and gifts across international borders throughout the year. Alongside this, rapid digital transformation, including real-time shipment tracking, automated customs documentation, and AI-powered route optimization, has helped Indian courier companies compete effectively with established global logistics players on both price and service quality.

Among Indian cities, Delhi has emerged as one of the most strategically important gateways for international courier and logistics services.

Excellent air connectivity through Indira Gandhi International Airport, a well-developed road network, and a large concentration of businesses and exporters make Delhi a natural hub for outbound international shipments. International courier service providers operating out of Delhi now connect businesses and individuals to major destinations across Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada, the UAE, and over 200 countries worldwide, offering comprehensive door-to-door delivery solutions with real-time tracking and full customs support. Despite the impressive progress, the sector still faces meaningful challenges.

Infrastructure gaps in smaller cities, continuing customs complexity for new exporters, last-mile delivery difficulties in remote regions, and intense competition from well-established global logistics companies remain key obstacles that Indian courier businesses must address as they scale their international operations.

The outlook, however, remains overwhelmingly positive. Industry experts predict that India will become one of the top three global logistics hubs by 2030, driven by continued government support, private sector investment, and the unstoppable momentum of Indian e-commerce exports. For logistics professionals, trade experts, and businesses looking to engage with the India opportunity, the time to act is now.
