Mar 12, 2024

Cathay Cargo Terminal and Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced today that they had both successfully achieved IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification, becoming the first cargo handling companies to achieve IEnvA in Asia.

IEnvA is a comprehensive certification program developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It independently assesses the commitment of aviation stakeholders including airlines, airports, cargo-handling facilities, freight forwarders, and ramp handlers, to continuously improve their environmental and sustainability performance. By adhering to globally recognized standards and industry best practices, IEnvA ensures that organizations minimize negative impacts on the environment while maintaining operational excellence.

Cathay Cargo Terminal Chief Operating Officer Mark Watts said: “This significant milestone demonstrates our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. The program brings real rigor to environment management systems and reflects the significant investments our companies are making to support Hong Kong International Airport achieve its vision for sustainable airport operations.”

Hactl Chief Executive Wilson Kwong said: “This notable accomplishment is a testament to the extensive efforts we have made in implementing sustainable practices in our operations. By attaining this certification, our two companies have set a high standard for the entire industry to strive towards. This achievement solidifies our position as leaders in promoting environmental responsibility, and underscores the importance of sustainable practices in the aviation sector.”

IATA Sustainability Standards and Audits Senior Manager Quintin Holder said: “In IEnvA, we empower organizations like Cathay Cargo Terminal and Hactl to align environmental goals with operational excellence. We believe that sustainability shouldn't come at the expense of efficiency. Our solutions help businesses optimize their operations while minimizing their environmental impact. It's not just about compliance; it's about making a real difference for our planet and future generations.”
