Global CFS opens second managed warehouse, first on West Coast

Feb 03, 2025

Global CFS, a provider of ground-based transportation and cargo handling services for freight forwarders and custom house brokers, announces the expansion of their private label warehouse management services to Los Angeles. Their second such location nationwide, Global CFS is responsible for hiring, staffing, operating, and managing a top 50 global forwarder's 135,000 sq. ft. facility in Compton, California.

The warehouse features 30 dock doors and two drive-in doors, ensuring seamless operations and efficient handling. With a team of 77 skilled and dedicated employees, the facility operates as the entry point for customs-cleared air and ocean cargo arriving in Southern California for local delivery, transload, and inland distribution.

With its proximity to LAX and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, this gateway warehouse is key to the client's strategy in providing fast, efficient service and is key to meeting customer KPIs.

"Global CFS has been in the warehousing and ground handling business in Chicago since 1967," says Lou Capizzi, Global CFS Chief Executive Officer. "Freight forwarders excel at moving cargo and Global CFS can be a partner in the management and operation of their facilities. Having now successfully opened a second such facility, we believe our ability to cost-effectively and compliantly offer this outsource service is a growth area for the company."

“Opening in Los Angeles marks an exciting milestone. We appreciate the trust our client has placed in us in a new market,” said Global CFS President Steve Panzarella. “Managing a warehouse of this size and welcoming its experienced and talented employees to our team is the most logical next step in driving our continued growth. This expansion reflects our commitment to better serve the trade community nationwide and positions us to further strengthen our operations and deliver exceptional value.”

The southern California port complex is the busiest in the Western Hemisphere, strategically located near major interstate highways, warehousing and distribution centers, and multiple freight airports. As a major air cargo hub, LAX functions as a vital gateway for international trade and a central position for distribution across the western U.S. and connectivity to key ground transportation corridors. Airports Council International ranked Los Angeles International Airport as the 8th largest for passengers and, 9th largest for cargo in the world in 2023.
