FIATA and the World Bank have enhanced their long-standing collaboration with the signing of a Statement of Cooperation aimed at driving environmental sustainability and enhancing regulatory transparency in the logistics sector. This partnership highlights the shared commitment to addressing the evolving challenges and opportunities presented by global trade, environmental imperatives, and regulatory complexities.
Building on years of cooperation, this Statement of Cooperation lays the groundwork for transformative initiatives that promote sustainable logistics practices worldwide. Central to this collaboration is the development of a pioneering dashboard of sustainable logistics regulations. Based on a comprehensive survey conducted with FIATA Members, this dashboard will provide detailed insights into the quality and impact of regulations across dimensions such as environmental impact, regulatory entry, operational practices, and digital integration. The initiative aligns with the OECD Services Trade Restrictiveness Index (STRI), in collaboration with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
FIATA Director General, Stéphane Graber, emphasised the significance of the partnership, stating: "This Statement of Collaboration with the World Bank is a testament to FIATA’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices within the logistics sector. By leveraging data-driven insights, we aim to provide our Members with actionable tools to navigate the complexities of today’s regulatory environment while positioning the industry for long-term growth and competitiveness. This collaboration underscores the importance of uniting global expertise to drive meaningful change”.
Mona Haddad, Global Director for Trade, Investment and Competitiveness, World Bank, highlighted: “Effective policies, regulations, and institutions promote modern and green logistics services and lead to better performance and resilience. The partnership with FIATA will enable us to develop a better understanding of global supply chains and inform decision-makers with quality data and knowledge, based on the most relevant input from experts and practitioners”.
The Statement of Cooperation reflects a joint effort to address the critical role logistics plays in reducing global carbon emissions and supporting economic growth. By fostering alignment with international standards and promoting the adoption of greener practices, the partnership ensures that governments and businesses alike are equipped to meet the rising demands of sustainability while reducing trade-related costs and complexities.
FIATA’s ongoing collaboration with strategic partners like the World Bank and the Smart Freight Centre underscores its leadership in advancing sustainable solutions. Together, these efforts empower the global logistics community to drive progress, ensure compliance, and lead the transition toward a more sustainable future.
