With a 5% growth in maritime traffic in 2024, Dunkerque-Port stands out as a strategic and innovative player in the European port sector. Driven by its commitment to diversification and decarbonization, the port is paving the way toward a sustainable and competitive future.

Sustained Growth Despite Economic Challenges

Dunkerque-Port has achieved remarkable performance across key sectors:

  • Liquid and solid bulk: Growth of 4% and 7%, respectively, with a notable recovery in ore traffic (+23%).
  • Ro-Ro Activity: An 8% increase on the Dunkerque-Dover route, supported by investments in new infrastructure.

Looking Ahead with the CAP 2020 Project

Launched in 2025, the CAP 2020 project represents an investment of €303 million. This ambitious initiative aims to double container handling capacity with a new terminal set to be operational by 2029, capable of accommodating the world’s largest container ships.

Green Innovation at the Core

Dunkerque-Port is positioning itself as a leader in energy transition through several initiatives:

  • Launch of a green cross-Channel corridor, with 100% electric ferries operational by 2030.
  • Development of a rail terminal to promote modal shift to rail freight by 2026.
  • Strengthened partnerships for biodiversity preservation, with over 1,000 hectares dedicated.

A Transforming Ecosystem

In 2024, Dunkerque-Port strengthened its role in strategic sectors, including:

  • Agri-food: Expansion of Nord Céréales' storage capacity and enhanced collaboration with international players such as Clarebout Potatoes.
  • Electric Mobility: Hosting gigafactories and developing infrastructure to support the battery industry, placing Dunkerque at the heart of the Hauts-de-France battery valley.

Global Presence at the Osaka World Expo

Dunkerque-Port and the Dunkerque Urban Community will participate in the Osaka World Expo in May 2025 as part of the France Pavilion. Under the theme "Designing the Society of the Future", Dunkerque will showcase its sustainable port model focused on decarbonization, economic development, and heritage preservation. This international stage will solidify Dunkerque-Port’s reputation as a leader in transition and innovation.
