CT Company shines at National Battery Industry trade show in Michigan

Sep 21, 2023

Burning concerns over lethal lithium-ion battery fires put Packaging and Crating Technologies (PACT®) in the spotlight at the recent Battery Show in Novi, Michigan from September 12-14, 2023. Crowds of companies sought out the Watertown, Conn. manufacturer to learn about its fire-suppressant product line, especially its new PACT Lion-X extinguisher. The largest industry event in North America attracted more than 100,000 attendees.

“We are blown away by the interest in our patented innovations that reduce battery fires currently causing extensive property damage and personal injury,” said Rodger Mort, President of PACT®, LLC. “Our booth showcased our American-made solutions to safely transport and recycle lithium batteries that are used to power e-bikes, scooters and hand-held electronics.

Mort notes this is the only gathering geared toward both the battery and EV tech communities. The annual convention brings together engineers, business leaders, top-industry companies, and innovative thinkers to discover ground-breaking products and create powerful solutions for the future.
The company’s PACT® Thermo ShieldTM is a lightweight, paper material with a moisture vapor application that prevents thermal runaway, a phenomenon in which the lithium-ion cell enters an uncontrollable, self-heating state caused by extremely high temperatures, shaking or puncturing.

Additionally, the company debuted the PACT Lion-X fire extinguisher, a pre-mixed, water-based solution that quenches lithium-ion fires upwards of 1,600 F degrees within 30 seconds, while eliminating the release of toxic gases into the environment. The extinguisher successfully passed all burn tests conducted by VTEC Laboratories in NYC, the recommended lab by the Fire Department of NY.
