Connecticut Port Authority launches website for State Pier Improvement Project

Nov 12, 2020

The Connecticut Port Authority (the Authority) has launched a new website (www.statepiernewlondon.com) to provide the public with information pertaining to the State Pier New London Infrastructure Improvements Project (the project). The website, which will be updated in real-time over the course of the project, provides access to project updates and timelines, project-specific announcements and documents and frequently asked questions and answers. The website is managed by AECOM Technical Services, Inc., which serves as the Authority’s construction administrator for the project.

It is the goal of the Connecticut Port Authority to make generational improvements to transform the State Pier in New London into a state-of-the-art heavy-lift capable port facility that will accommodate a wide variety of cargoes, including wind turbine generator staging and assembly,” said John Henshaw, Executive Director of the Authority. “The proposed State Pier infrastructure improvements are being designed to address previously identified facility shortcomings, and enhance the State Pier facility and site conditions to accommodate future cargo needs and capitalize on opportunities for the State of Connecticut.”

On February 11, 2020, the Authority, the state’s quasi-public agency responsible for promoting and coordinating the development of the state’s ports and maritime industry, terminal operator Gateway Terminal, and joint venture partners Ørsted and Eversource finalized a harbor development agreement to redevelop State Pier in New London into a state-of-the-art heavy-lift capable port facility and bring hundreds of well-paying jobs to the area.
