Kilbee appointed Chair of Association of Average Adjusters

May 08, 2025

At its AGM in London, Chris Kilbee has been appointed Chair of the Association of Average Adjusters (AAA) for the coming year.

Kilbee succeeds Ann Waite who stepped down at the meeting having completed her one-year term and who served as the first woman Chair since the Association was established in 1869.

Kilbee paid tribute to Ms. Waite and thanked her for the contribution she had made to the Association as Chair. He said:

“I’ve been an average adjuster for 50 years, a Fellow of the AAA since 1987 and board member since 2018. I am honoured to be chosen as Chair for this year. During my term, I intend to build on Ann’s great work and continue to raise the profile of the AAA and the role of average adjusters world-wide so that our varied activities are better understood within the maritime insurance and ship owning communities.”

“In today’s fast-paced environment our customers, whether they be the receiver or provider of insurance, want simplicity, speed and high-quality adjusting services which deliver true value-for-money. To achieve that, it is the job of the AAA to continue to provide stable and strong professional qualifications and standards to which our members adhere. This reinforces the role of the average adjuster as a highly qualified individual who can act impartially to calculate and help settle claims effectively for all parties.”

More widely, Chris Kilbee is keen that the Association continues to attract non-adjusters to its examination process, specifically insurance underwriters and brokers, and representatives from ship owning companies. This, he says, will broaden the general knowledge of average adjusting within the maritime sector. At the same time, he wants to encourage stronger relationships with marine insurers in order to maintain the continuing mutual trust and appreciation that exists in the marketplace.

Chris Kilbee founded MCO, a firm of average adjusters, in 2003 and operates offices in Singapore, Jakarta, Perth and Kuala Lumpur. He is Group Chairman and has a large team servicing worldwide clientele and, within Asia, services clients from all points from the Middle East to Japan. Prior to that he worked in Singapore and Sydney as an average adjuster for Richards Hogg starting in London in 1975. He has dual citizenship (Australia/UK) and spent his youth in Hong Kong and the UK. He now divides his time between Singapore and Perth.
