CCE Group and GAL Aerospace partner to advance smart cabin safety in overhead compartments

Apr 20, 2026

CCE Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GAL Aerospace to explore the next generation of smart cabin devices. The agreement was signed in Hamburg during Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) and World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE), two key annual events for the global aircraft cabin industry.

GAL Aerospace provides comprehensive cabin interior solutions for regional and narrow body aircraft. Its core purpose is to engineer and certify solutions that solve real operational challenges for airlines. While its expertise spans the entire cabin, from monuments and lavatories to full cabin reconfigurations, its signature overhead bin upgrade programs have become one of its most successful and widely adopted product lines.

This partnership builds on technology that has already been recognized at the highest level. This week, AviusULD, a CCE Group company, in cooperation with eloc8, won the Crystal Cabin Award 2026 in Cabin Technologies for Smart Cabin Fire Tag, a solution designed to detect lithium-ion battery off-gassing in overhead stowage areas at a very early stage. The jury praised the solution as a simple, elegant and practical answer to a highly relevant safety challenge with strong potential to become an industry baseline.

The MOU with GAL Aerospace marks an important step in building on that momentum and exploring how this technology can be applied in the cabin. The first focus is the potential integration of Smart Cabin Fire Tag and occupancy sensing technology into aircraft overhead compartments.

Overhead compartments are used on every flight, yet they give crews very little visibility when a risk is developing or how space is actually being used. Integrating fire detection and occupancy sensing into this part of the cabin would help close that gap. It would give crews earlier warning, better visibility, and a clearer picture of what is happening in real time, while supporting a new benchmark for safety and efficiency.

Klaus Hofmann, CEO of CCE Group, commented:

“This MOU with GAL Aerospace is an important step in expanding smart sensing technology into the aircraft cabin. GAL Aerospace brings strong expertise in cabin interiors, and that makes this a valuable partnership as we explore practical applications for overhead compartments and other cabin equipment.

Our goal is clear: to bring more visibility, earlier warning, and better operational insight into parts of the cabin that have traditionally remained passive. This is about turning proven technology into practical solutions that help raise the benchmark for safety and efficiency.”

Bruno Morin, President & COO of GAL Aerospace, said:

“Partnering with CCE Group to integrate their Smart Cabin Fire Tag technology, winner of the Crystal Cabin Award 2026 in Cabin Technologies, into our overhead bins is a natural extension of our mission. By combining our broad capabilities in cabin interior modifications with CCE Group’s advanced sensing technology, we are taking a significant step toward creating smarter, safer, and more efficient cabin environments.”

This agreement reflects CCE Group’s wider strategy of applying proven technologies across its cabin and cargo ecosystem, turning innovation into practical solutions that solve real operational challenges and help raise standards across the aircraft environment.
