Bush Airport Among Top Airports in U.S. for On-Time Performance

HOUSTON - Houston has two successful international airports with record-breaking passenger demand from both business and leisure travelers. With a vision to establish Houston Airports as a five-star global air service gateway, it is no surprise that among the top 29 U.S. hub-airports, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) ranked high for on-time performance. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics ranked Bush Airport No. 8 among the top 29 hub airports in the U.S. for on-time performance in 2016 with more than 83 percent of flights operating on time. The Houston Airport System has partnered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on numerous projects to enhance the efficiency of the Houston airspace, including the Houston Metroplex project.  The project introduced changes to airspace design and procedures for airports in the Houston region. These changes included 49 additions, 11 modifications and 20 removals of various types of arrival and departure procedures. It also included development of new Performance Based Navigation procedures, as well as expanded use of Time Based Flow Management. “We are proud of our strong partnership with the FAA as we collaborate to make our air space more efficient,” said Houston Aviation Director Mario Diaz.  ”Houston has one of the busiest airspaces in the country and to be ranked among the top airports for on-time performance is a testament to the success of collaboration and innovation. We continue to be on the cutting edge of aviation technology and will continue to look for innovations that will enhance the customer experience at our airports.” Bush Airport climbed up 8 spaces from No. 16 in 2015 to No. 8 in 2016.
