Biggest container cranes ever for Port of Oakland almost here

Dec 28, 2020

The crane ship bringing the largest container cranes ever to Oakland is right off the coast of Northern California. The vessel Captain plans to anchor in Drakes Bay this Christmas Eve (north of the Bay Area) where the ship will shelter for a few days.

The cranes fully assembled are too large to fit under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. The ship’s crew will be “lowering the booms” while the vessel is anchored in Drakes Bay. This will take a few days weather permitting.

Once the crane booms are lowered, then the ships will easily clear the bridges and can enter the Bay. After entering the Bay the ship will go to anchor for several days while final preparations are made for the vessel to come into the Port of Oakland and dock.
