one hour ago

Averitt has been named a 2026 Green Supply Chain Partner by Inbound Logistics, earning a place on the publication’s annual G75 list of companies leading the way in sustainable supply chain and logistics practices. The recognition marks the 16th time Averitt has been included since the program began in 2009 and reflects the company’s continued investment in technologies and initiatives that reduce environmental impact while improving operational efficiency.

“We are grateful to be recognized once again by Inbound Logistics,” said Barry Blakely, Averitt’s president and chief operating officer. “Every investment we make in sustainability is an investment in our customers, our associates, and the future of our industry. We will continue looking for opportunities to operate more efficiently and responsibly.”

As a founding member of the EPA’s SmartWay® program since 2004, Averitt has reduced CO₂e emissions by 36% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 84% while implementing solutions that make freight transportation more efficient. Through its Power of One network model, the company reduces empty miles, consolidates shipments, and optimizes routes to create environmental and operational benefits across its system.

Averitt also continues to invest in technologies that lower fuel consumption and emissions, including aerodynamic trailer skirts that have saved more than 6.4 million gallons of diesel fuel and reduced emissions by 144 million pounds. Additional initiatives include auxiliary power units, automatic tire inflation systems, recycling 100% of used oil, repurposing or recycling 100% of retired tires, expanding the use of electric forklifts throughout its distribution and fulfillment network, and deploying battery-powered electric yard tractors at service centers across Tennessee.

“Sustainability is woven into the way we approach innovation and continuous improvement,” said Blakely. “We believe meaningful progress comes from making thoughtful decisions every day that strengthen our operations while reducing our environmental footprint.”

Other recent sustainability achievements for Averitt include:

  • Recognition as a Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking
  • Deployment of battery-powered electric yard tractors through Tennessee’s Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program
  • Continued participation in CDP, earning scores that reflect the company’s commitment to transparency and environmental stewardship
