Yucatán deep-water port places order for two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 mobile harbor cranes

Jan 13, 2026

Terminal de Contenedores de Yucatán, S.A. de C.V. (APM Terminals Yucatán) has ordered two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Cranes, each configured to match with the local infrastructure and equipped with an external power supply to support the terminal’s decarbonization strategy. The order was booked in Q4 2025 and the cranes will be delivered to Puerto Progreso at the end of September 2026.

The Port of Progreso is the main maritime gateway of the Yucatán Peninsula, connecting its textile and manufacturing industries with the United States. As the port’s only dedicated container terminal, APM Terminals Yucatán plays a central role in foreign trade across the southern region of Mexico. The two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 mobile harbor cranes form a major part of a modernization and capacity-building program underway at the port.

“Our terminal is advancing through a significant long-term investment program, and these two cranes represent important milestones along that path. We already operate earlier-generation Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor cranes, so we are familiar with their reliability and performance. Konecranes was the natural choice for our next phase of growth,” says Victor Peter Konen, Managing Director and COO of APM Terminals Yucatán.

Each crane is specially equipped with a 10-axle chassis – instead of the standard 7-axle design – as well as oversized propping pads (2 × 2.0 m × 5.4 m). Thanks to this design – tailored for the local infrastructure’s limited quay loadings – the cranes can operate at full performance. They also come equipped with a 150-meter 13.2 kV cable reel for fully electric operation from an external power supply – enabling zero tailpipe emissions.

“These customized cranes combine high performance with the option of fully electric operation, aligning perfectly with the terminal’s long-term vision. We appreciate the trust placed in our technology and look forward to continuing our the modernization and ongoing operations at the Port of Progreso,” says Marc Wellenberg, Regional Sales Manager at Port Solutions, Konecranes.

This contract is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes' comprehensive step-by-step roadmap to zero tailpipe emissions that supports the decarbonization of port operations. Our solutions range from renewable diesel-powered drives, to hybrid and fully-electrified fleets, and emerging options like hydrogen, all designed to meet the needs of each customer today and for the future.
