The West Calcasieu Port officially opened its new tenant office building.
The event was co-hosted by the Chamber/Southwest Louisiana and the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce.
“The completion of our port’s new four-suite office building could not come at a better time for our port and our regional economic development,” said Dick Kennison, president of the WCP board of commissioners, in a prepared statement.
“Our port has a proud tradition of supporting the marine transportation and construction industries, and now we are expanding our support to companies doing business along the Highway 27 corridor in south Calcasieu Parish and north Cameron Parish,” he added.
The WCP’s new tenant office building has three of four 1,100-square feet suites available for lease. Suite tenants will also have access to a state-of-the-art conference room.
“One suite already is occupied and supports the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office new satellite law enforcement center,” Kennison said.
Each 1,100-square-foot suite is supported by a 430-square foot secure private storage locker located beneath the suite.
The 396-acre West Calcasieu Port is located on the north shore of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway about two miles west of the Calcasieu River Waterway. The new office building is located at the entrance to the port on Alfred Devall Parkway.
The new tenant office building was funded in part by a federal FEMA $3.5 million grant as the result of Hurricanes Laura damages to other port facilities.
Keiland Construction of Lake Charles, was the contractor for the project.

“The new tenant office building demonstrates the port’s commitment to supporting Southwest Louisiana’s regional economic development effort, especially in the semi-rural southern portion of Calcasieu Parish as well as northern Cameron Parish,” said Lynn Hohensee, port director.
Engineering support for the new office building was provided by Meyer & Associates of Sulphur, the port’s engineer. Randy Goodloe and Associates provided architectural support.
Located 12 miles south of Interstate 10 and just west of Highway 27, the West Calcasieu Port has approximately 11,000 linear feet of waterfront property along the GIWW.
Port tenants – Southern Devall Towing, VLS Environmental Marine Services and Great Lakes Dredging & Docking -- play a critical role in the growth of SWLA industrial foot print and include barge-fleeting operations, diesel engine repair, wet-barge cleaning/stripping/repair services and marine dredging services.
