Yang Ming receives Norfolk Southern’s 2024 Sustainability Partner Awards - Energy Efficiency

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (“Yang Ming”) has advanced its net-zero transition goals by implementing optimization measures of daily operations to enhancing fleet energy efficiency. In recognition of these efforts, the Company is pleased to announce that it has been honored with the 2024 Sustainability Partner Award - Energy Efficiency by Norfolk Southern Corporation (“Norfolk Southern”). Mr. Wen-Jin Lee, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations, at Yang Ming (America) Corp. accepted the award on behalf of Yang Ming at Norfolk Southern’s headquarters.

Norfolk Southern, one of the major railroad operators in the U.S. East Coast, connects 22 states and serves as a key business partner for Yang Ming in providing intermodal transportation services. The Sustainability Partner Award was established in 2022, and the energy efficiency category recognizes those companies or suppliers who optimized energy efficiency management and achieved progresses in 2023.

In addition to retrofitting existing vessels, Yang Ming integrates big data and cloud technologies to monitor energy consumption performance of its fleet and implements route optimization measures to enhance energy efficiency. In 2023, the carbon intensity of Yang Ming fleet has reduced by 61.86% compared to 2008. Furthermore, Yang Ming’s U.S.-based invested terminal, West Basin Container Terminal (WBCT), and Kao Ming Container Terminal Corp. in Kaohsiung have implemented 22 alternative maritime power facilities, mitigating the environmental impact of operations. Moreover, 61.70% of the Company’s fleet is equipped with shore power equipment, enabling connections to shore power at major ports. The efforts contribute to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, SOx, and NOx. Yang Ming is honored with the award for its first year of participation, this recognition highlights the Company’s achievements in sustainable environment as recognized by business partners.

Yang Ming continues the initiatives of adopting biofuel and shore power, transitioning to electric equipment, and utilizing green energy at land-based offices to mitigate environmental impact. Looking ahead, Yang Ming remains committed to its mission of "providing sustainable and top-class transportation services, creating values for customers, and contributing to human well-being", and collaborate with supply chain partners to promote a sustainable future.
