Women In Trucking Association names Leonard’s Express a top Workplace for Women in Transportation

Oct 31, 2023

Leonard’s Express – a leading transportation services provider offering refrigerated trucking, dry van, warehousing, and freight brokerage services – has been recognized as a 2023 “Top Company for Women to Work For in Transportation” by Redefining the Road, the official magazine of the Women In Trucking Association (WIT). The industry association’s mission is to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments, and minimize the obstacles they face.

There are several characteristics that distinguish the companies recognized on this list, according to Brian Everett, Group Publisher and Editorial Director of Redefining the Road magazine. These characteristics include corporate cultures that foster gender diversity; competitive compensation and benefits; flexible hours and work requirements; professional development opportunities; and career advancement opportunities. Selecting the companies for this prestigious list involves a two-step process. First, nominations are received and carefully reviewed to ensure they qualify by meeting a minimum threshold of qualifications. Then individuals in the industry vote for companies they believe deserve the honor. WIT received more than 27,000 votes to identify the final companies named to the list.

“We’re proud to be recognized by Women in Trucking for our commitment to supporting women in the workforce,” said Leonard’s Express Executive Chairman Ken Johnson, who co-owns the company with his brothers Kyle (CEO) and Kevin (President & COO). “Leonard’s was co-founded by our mother Patricia Johnson, who was a pioneer in the industry and an equal partner in the company’s growth. Our culture of inclusivity is a continuation of her legacy. Women will always play a vital role in our success.”

Earlier this year, WIT recognized Leonard’s Express Director of Fleet Safety Katie Griffin as a Top Woman to Watch in Transportation and Leonard’s driver Ann McFarland was one of two finalists for WIT’s Driver of the Year award.
