Virgin Atlantic Cargo has been voted ‘Air Cargo Operator of the Year’ in the 2017 FTA Multimodal Awards presented at the UK and Ireland’s leading freight transport, logistics and supply chain management event. The annual awards were created to reward service excellence and invite votes from freight transport professionals and customers of all modes of transport. Now in its tenth year, the Multimodal conference and exhibition attracts over 9,000 visitors from the UK and Ireland freight industry as well as 275 exhibitors. The 2017 FTA Multimodal Awards Night, hosted by former England cricket captain David Gower OBE, attracted over 700 guests to celebrate the industry’s ‘best of the best’. John Lloyd, Managing Director of Virgin Atlantic Cargo, said: “We are really proud to have won this award. The fact that it is based on votes by customers in the UK and Ireland makes it extremely important to us because it is our home market. It also demonstrates that in a year when we were managing increasing volumes of cargo, customers continued to have con dence in our service and that is a huge testament to the hard work of our own team and dnata, our handling partner in the UK.” Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s tonnage rose to 218,000 tonnes across its global network in 2016. Customer support from the UK was particularly strong throughout the year with volumes from UK to the U.S. alone up 8.4% year-on-year.
