UTC Overseas introduces new BESS Group

one hour ago

The Executive Management Team at UTC Overseas is proud to announce the formation of its new global BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) Group, a strategic initiative designed to support the rapidly expanding energy storage market worldwide.

Leading the global BESS initiative is longtime industry professional Jani Pekka Tarpio, who is the Vice President Global Energy Solutions and Special Projects and has over 20 years of experience in the specialized cargo and logistics industry. Recognized as an early pioneer in the BESS logistics sector, Jani began developing supply chain solutions while the market was still in its infancy and has successfully overseen the transportation of more than 4,000 BESS units worldwide.

The worldwide BESS market is currently valued at approximately $1.3 trillion and continues to grow. Mirko Knezevic, UTC COO Global Projects, comments on the challenges facing the BESS market. “As the industry evolves, projects are becoming larger, heavier, and more complex to transport. One of the industry’s greatest challenges is that BESS cargo is highly regulated and subject to stringent transportation requirements, while also competing for limited deck and project cargo space. With hundreds of units often required for a single project, obtaining sufficient vessel capacity has become increasingly difficult. In addition, trucking operations require specialized hazardous cargo licensing and permits, which remain limited in many markets.”

“The energy sector is evolving at an incredible pace, and the logistics behind these projects have never been more critical. After years of navigating international operations and complex project logistics, I have seen firsthand how specialized expertise can determine the success of global initiatives.

“That is why I am energized to join a team known for delivering solutions to some of the world’s most demanding logistics challenges. I look forward to advancing our energy portfolio and building on the standard of excellence UTC is recognized for worldwide,” states Tarpio.

The launch of the BESS Group represents an important step forward in UTC’s long-term strategy for all sectors of the high-growth energy market. UTC’s worldwide BESS Group, along with the company’s regional expertise, will support customers navigating the unprecedented growth in this sector.
