Update regarding M/V ZIM KINGSTON

Oct 25, 2021

ZIM KINGSTON is chartered by ZIM, and we are in constant touch with the owners regarding the unfolding situation. We can report that as of now, fire onboard the ZIM Kingston has been extinguished. Firefighting tugboats continue to operate to prevent renewed flareups. Additional expert and firefighting personnel are due to board the vessel soon, weather permitting, to oversee ongoing effort.

Meanwhile, another expert crew is preparing to board the vessel and provide an assessment of the vessel and cargo situation, as authorized by the Canadian authorities, in order to bring the ship to harbor to unload the cargo and assess the damages.

ZIM is working closely with all relevant agencies to secure the crew safety and minimize environmental impact.  ZIM is providing all needed information regarding the containers which fell overboard, hazardous materials in the damaged containers, or any other information requested by the agencies responsible for addressing any potential environmental effects, safety of navigation or other concerns.
