Uni-Tankers and Sofar Ocean announce a new partnership that will bring Sofar Ocean’s Wayfinder platform to Uni-Tankers’ entire fleet.
Wayfinder will support more informed route and speed decisions, stronger operational visibility, and better coordination between Uni-Tankers’s ship and shore-based teams. The decision comes as Uni-Tankers continues to grow its fleet and its 2025/26 strategy focuses on operational efficiency and digital development.
For Uni-Tankers, the partnership reflects a practical operational need. The company recently reported a record fleet of 44 vessels, with activity balanced between the spot market and long-term contracts.
“Operating a global fleet requires a consistent focus on both safety and operational performance,” said Peter Søbygge, General Manager Operations at Uni-Tankers. “Our vessels trade across regions and weather systems, where reliable data and strong visibility support more consistent decision-making both onboard and onshore. With Wayfinder, we see an opportunity to further strengthen how we plan and execute our voyages, while supporting safe and efficient operations across the fleet.”
Uni-Tankers will use Wayfinder to support its day-to-day voyage execution with the shipping industry’s leading real-time marine weather intelligence, vessel-specific digital twins for performance modelling, and dynamic voyage optimization. In 2025, shipowners using Wayfinder - including MOL, Dorian LPG, and Star Bulk - saved an average of 6.9% fuel per voyage.
“As we continue to grow the fleet, we are investing in operational efficiency, digital development, and more energy-efficient operations across the business,” said Per Ekmann, CEO of Uni-Tankers. “We reviewed and trialed the available options thoroughly. Wayfinder stood out for its ability to improve our weather visibility, enhance route and speed decisions, and strengthen execution between our ship and shore teams.”
The partnership builds on Uni-Tankers’ broader investment in fleet efficiency and operational innovation. Since 2025 Uni-Tankers has expanded its fleet with modern eco tankers, invested in wind-assisted propulsion systems, and is participating in the Danish Environmental Protection Agency’s CLEANSHIP project to measure the real-world impact of emissions-reducing initiatives during voyages.
“We’re proud to partner with Uni-Tankers to support their operational efficiency and commitment to safety,” said Tim Janssen, co-founder and CEO of Sofar Ocean. “Hyper-efficiency comes from combining vessel and market data, with the best real-time environmental data to drive better voyage decisions. Our partnership reflects that evolution, and we’re excited to work alongside the Uni-Tankers team to deliver safer, sharper, and more effective voyage execution.”
This announcement marks the start of the partnership, with both companies expecting to share more as implementation progresses and operational experience with the platform develops.
