UIPA’s Skyline Corridor adoption to drive economic transformation in Central Utah

Oct 08, 2024

The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) today announced the adoption of the Skyline Corridor Project Area, a significant initiative aimed at driving economic growth and infrastructure development across Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne counties.

The Skyline Corridor Project Area spans multiple zones, including the cities of Ephraim, Gunnison, Salina, Richfield, and parts of unincorporated Wayne County. This project is designed to strengthen the regional economy by fostering business growth, creating jobs, and enhancing connectivity for rural communities through strategic investments in logistics infrastructure.

“We are thrilled to adopt the Skyline Corridor Project Area,” said Ben Hart, executive director of UIPA. “This project represents a new chapter of growth for Central Utah, bringing much-needed infrastructure improvements and high-quality job opportunities. Our collaboration with local communities and partners is key to ensuring this project benefits the region for generations to come.”

The Skyline Corridor is expected to generate thousands of jobs and attract industries such as light manufacturing, agribusiness, and logistics. UIPA will work with the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) and local stakeholders to implement a targeted recruitment strategy focused on creating high-wage jobs and encouraging sustainable development.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Gunnison and the surrounding communities,” said Gunnison City Mayor Lori Nay. “The Skyline Corridor will help us grow responsibly, bringing new economic opportunities while preserving the values that make our community special.”

The project area will also include investments in transportation infrastructure, utility improvements, and logistics-specific facilities, further supporting the economic diversification of Central Utah. UIPA is committed to ongoing collaboration with local governments to ensure the project aligns with community goals and contributes to long-term economic stability.
