TTD wants a no vote for Diana Furchtgott-Roth

May 20, 2020

TTD: U.S. Senate should not confirm Diana Furchtgott-Roth to hold senior position at the Department of Transportation

Larry I. Willis, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement opposing the nomination of Diana Furchtgott-Roth to Assistant Secretary of Transportation:

“Now, more than ever, frontline transportation workers deserve voices at the Department of Transportation who will work with them, seek to improve safety, and expand middle-class job creation. Diana Furchtgott-Roth does not offer these qualities. Her opposition to policies important to working people, the unions that represent them, and the future of the transportation sector should disqualify her for this post.

“From opposing the most basic tenets of labor rights to being against bipartisan infrastructure proposals, Furchtgott-Roth is consistently wrong on the issues that matter most. She wants to privatize Amtrak, eliminate the Highway Trust Fund, devolve responsibility for transportation funding to the states, and make it more difficult for port workers to secure fair wages and benefits. Furthermore, her statements on women’s supposed inability to perform physical occupations and dismissiveness of the scourge of sexual harassment in the workplace are antiquated and unacceptable.

“Furchtgott-Roth’s record speaks for itself. We continue to oppose her nomination to DOT and call on Congress to reject this nomination.”
