On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Trucking Association of New York (TANY) will join industry advocates to provide testimony at the New York State Assembly Standing Committees on Transportation and Energy’s public hearing to review the status of charging stations available to the public for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on roadways across the state.
The hearing comes on the heels of the implementation of the Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) rule, which requires a percentage of new trucks purchased in the state to be zero-emission vehicles. However, these regulations set an unattainable goal given the lack of infrastructure needed to support this transition—currently there are no public charging stations for medium- and heavy-duty ZEVs in the entire state of New York.
“Our industry is committed to supporting New York’s environmental goals, including the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. However, achieving these goals requires collaboration to address key challenges, particularly the development of a public charging infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty ZEVs. Currently, the lack of infrastructure presents a significant barrier to a successful transition. Without this support from the State, the trucking industry is in a precarious position. Dealers and motor carriers across the state will face devastating losses as a result of the ACT rule,” said Kendra Hems, President of the Trucking Association of New York. “Trucks are the backbone of our economy—delivering critical goods, medicines, and care devices we all rely on. When the trucking industry suffers, so do all the sectors of the economy that rely on it. We look forward to working with the Assembly and our industry partners to find ways to improve sustainability that are not detrimental to our vital industry.”
The hearing on Roadway Zero Emission Vehicle Charging Infrastructure will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM EST in Roosevelt Hearing Room C in the Legislative Office Building.
