Trailer Bridge supports infrastructure investment in Puerto Rico

Trailer Bridge welcomed Puerto Rican Governor, Pedro R. Pierluisi, Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Executive Director Josue Colon, and Mr. Joel Piza, Executive Director of Puerto Rico Ports Authority to its Army Terminal this week for a press conference celebrating the arrival of a significant rotor component that will support the island’s electrical grid.

The turbine rotor arrived in San Juan aboard a Trailer Bridge barge and will be utilized to power Unit 6 turbine at the Costar Sur Power Plant, adding approximately 410mv to the electrical system. At the event, Pierluisi said, “We remain committed to transforming our entire electrical system in order to have a generation based on renewable energy and guarantee that we can provide energy to our people, and to our productive sector on the Island, in a reliable way with a modern and resilient system.”

Today’s event highlights the importance of Trailer Bridge’s barge service to the island which accommodates the efficient movement of oversized project cargo. The company’s roll-on, roll-off barges, the only consistent weekly service in the trade and largest in the world, are necessary to support the rebuilding efforts happening now as well as infrastructure improvements of the future.

In early 2021 Trailer Bridge signed its first 20-year lease agreement with the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, solidifying the strong relationship and continued support of shipper’s needs to and from the island. Trailer Bridge has been serving Puerto Rico for more than 30-years with reliable service, creating jobs and providing economic opportunity for our neighbors.

Trailer Bridge’s long-standing partner Anderson Trucking Service (ATS) was vital in making this happen as they were responsible for the over-the-road transport of the component from its U.S. origin location to Trailer Bridge’s Jacksonville terminal as well as from the port in PR to its final destination.
