The Consul General of Morocco visits the Port of València, a strategic country in trade relations

The Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Valencia, Mustapha Sadiq, has visited the facilities of the Port of València where he held a meeting with the president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martínez. The meeting served to highlight the good relations between Valenciaport and the Kingdom of Morocco, one of the main trading partners of the Valencian precinct.

Thus, between January and November, 131,776 containers were moved between the terminals of the Valencian precinct and Moroccan ports, which represents 32.18% more than in the same period of the previous year, being the country with the highest growth so far this year. In total, 2,347,396 tonnes of goods were handled, an increase of 23.41%. Of these, a third correspond to Spanish exports. 

During the meeting, the connectivity between the Port of Valencia and the Port of Casablanca, the port of the economic capital of the Alaouite kingdom, an infrastructure with similarities in terms of the composition of the traffic (import/export) and with which the Valencian precinct maintains regular lines, was discussed. 

At the meeting, which was also attended by Néstor Martínez, Deputy Director of APV; Fatima Zayed, Manager of VPI Logistics Services and the Consul's secretary, Dounia Essarghini-, the importance of the infrastructures (motorways, high-speed train, ports and airports), which have structured the country and have positioned Morocco as a top level logistics platform with special attention to port developments such as TangerMed, the new port of Nador in the north of the country and the port of Kenitra, on the Atlantic coast, was discussed.

On the other hand, both the PAV and the Moroccan delegation have agreed to deepen cooperation in training and research, two fundamental areas to continue improving competitiveness and to advance in common projects related to maritime traffic.

The visit made by the president of the PAV in February 2020 to the ports of Casablanca and TangierMed in the framework of a trade mission led by the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, together with the Council of Chambers and the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community was also recalled. Morocco is a strategic enclave for Spanish and Valencian companies, many of which are represented in a neighbouring country of Spain, which is proving to be a very dynamic economy.
