Steer welcomes aboard leading ports and maritime expert

one hour ago

Steve joins Steer following four successful years at Infrata, where he helped develop and grow the firm's maritime offering. He brings more than 38 years of experience across ports, shipping, terminals and maritime infrastructure projects worldwide, having previously held senior roles with P&O Nedlloyd and Maersk Line.

Steve will co-lead Steer's maritime offering alongside Alberto Preti, supporting clients across the ports, shipping, logistics and wider maritime industries as they navigate investment, operational and strategic challenges.

The appointment further strengthens Steer's established maritime practice, which combines commercial, technical, economic and financial expertise to support investors, lenders, port authorities, terminal operators, governments and infrastructure owners.

Steer's maritime team has advised on major port and maritime projects across Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia and Africa, supporting clients with strategic planning, transactions, business cases, demand forecasting, due diligence, infrastructure investment and energy transition programs.

Recent projects include supporting port authorities in identifying future opportunities and investment priorities in Greece; advising the North Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority on the evaluation of renewable energy public-private partnership opportunities; and supporting the development of a logistics strategy for Chile's Biobío region, helping identify pathways to decarbonize freight movements while strengthening economic competitiveness.

Steer's expertise extends across the full maritime ecosystem, from port and terminal operations to freight and logistics networks, shipping markets, industrial users, onshore power infrastructure and wider energy transition initiatives. The team also has extensive experience supporting infrastructure investors and lenders through commercial, technical and ESG due diligence assignments across port and maritime assets.

In addition to his advisory work, Steve is a regular speaker and chair at industry conferences and events, where he shares insights on the future of ports, shipping and maritime infrastructure. He is passionate about bringing people together across the industry and creating opportunities for colleagues and clients to gain first-hand insight into port operations.

"The maritime sector is facing a period of significant transformation. Ports are increasingly expected to support economic growth, enable energy transition, improve resilience and adapt to changing trade patterns, all while remaining commercially competitive. Steve is a highly respected figure within the maritime industry and brings a unique combination of operational, commercial and strategic experience,” says Alberto Preti.

“His appointment strengthens an already established maritime practice that spans ports, terminals, shipping, logistics, infrastructure transactions and energy transition. Together, we look forward to helping our clients identify opportunities, make informed investment decisions and deliver sustainable growth across the maritime sector."

“What attracted me to Steer was the breadth of expertise across the business, the collaborative culture and the opportunity to help clients address these complex challenges from both strategic and investment perspectives. I'm looking forward to working with Alberto and the wider team to continue growing our maritime offering," says Steve Wray.
