Spot truckload rates and volumes drop sharply

Apr 14, 2020

Van spot freight volumes lost 20% in the past two weeks, and national average rates lost 8¢ per mile, to $1.78, reflecting declines all over the country. Reefer trends weren't much better, and the flatbed sector has been slow for months. Then tornadoes swept through the South and high winds continued up the East Coast, wreaking havoc along the way. It was not the best week, to be sure.  For more info on lane rates, read the Rate Trend of the Week on the DAT blog.

The charts below show the national average rates for the month to date, including fuel surcharges. Explore Trendlines for more information.
