SeaLand makes clarification: Accurate declaration of out of gauge dimensions

Jun 25, 2020

Globally, we experience many shipments causing issues due to misdeclaration where it is neither safe nor operationally feasible to handle the shipment. To make sure all cargo can be planned and handled safely, we need to know the correct dimensions in advance. Consequently, Sealand-A Maersk Company will strengthen the control on accuracy of Out of Gauge (OOG) dimensions.
As of 1st July 2020 (Pricing Calculation Date), any customer who misdeclare cargo’s OOG dimension will be charged an OOG Misdeclaration Management Fee. All losses and expenses resulting from the misdeclaration are claimed to the responsible party, and Sealand-A Maersk Company retains the power to pursue legal liability.
The specific charging principles and standards are as follows:

    •    Charge object: A fee of USD 500 per container is charged to the OOG dimension applicant
    •    Cost trigger conditions:
    ◦    In-gauge shipments identified as Out of Gauge (OOG) during laden gate in terminal
    ◦    OOG shipment’s (including SOC) declared dimensions exceed the booked/declared dimensions after laden container gate-in terminal*.
    ◦    OOG shipment’s (including SOC) amended dimensions exceed the booked/declared dimensions after laden container gate-in terminal*.
(*) ”Terminal” covers origin terminal, transhipment ports and destination terminal. OOG Misdeclaration Management Fee is applicable to the result of misdeclared dimensions or falsification caused by negligence and intentional concealment of dimensions from client. Consequently not subject to waiving.
Since we know every piece of cargo is special and may change size depending on packing and lashing, our special cargo team will reach out to you five days prior to departure date to confirm the booked dimensions, and the End-Wall position in case the cargo is transported on a Flat-rack. You can always reach out to our dedicated special cargo team ([email protected] ) or your local Sealand-A Maersk Company office to update the dimensions between booking and gate-in, without any penalty.
