Meillón elected President of AMANAC

May 05, 2026

The Mexican Association of Shipping Agents (Amanac) appointed Roberto M. Meillón Covarrubias as President of the National Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term during its Ordinary General Assembly, in a process that took place with broad consensus among its members and in accordance with the organization’s current bylaws.

The election was conducted in accordance with the established procedures for the composition of its governing body, during a session that also marked the formal conclusion of the term led by Fernando Con y Ledesma at the helm of the association. As part of the assembly’s agenda, the results of the outgoing administration were presented, highlighting institutional progress in academic matters, international representation, and sectoral positioning.

Among the key achievements were obtaining the Official Recognition of Academic Credentials (RVOE) for the establishment of the Amanac Academic Institute, as well as the opening in Mexico of the representative office of the Inter-American Confederation of Shipping and Maritime Agents’ Associations (CIANAM). In addition, the organization received the “Made in Mexico” seal, awarded by the Ministry of Economy, as part of a strategy to strengthen the agency’s institutional identity.

The transition process was led by the association’s senior management in accordance with internal guidelines, ensuring the organization’s operational continuity. With this transition, the association is ushering in a new administration that will build on the progress made during the previous term.

Meillón Covarrubias has more than 35 years of experience in the maritime, port, and foreign trade sectors, having held management positions at companies such as Grupo Navieros, Navieros y Consignaciones, Internaves de México, and Soluciones Manzanillo Pacífico. His academic background includes a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, as well as a specialization in foreign trade.

The association plays a significant role within the national logistics system, representing the majority of shipping lines operating in the country’s ports, as well as freight forwarders involved in maritime foreign trade. This scope positions its National Board of Directors as a key forum for coordination between the industry and the authorities involved in the sector.
