Port of New Orleans utilized enhanced maritime security operations during Super Bowl LIX

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) and the Harbor Police Department (HPD) announced today the launch of strengthened security and upgraded technology at its Maritime Security Operations Center (MSOC). The new technology, put in place ahead of New Orleans hosting Super Bowl LIX, was used as part of increased security measures for the event and will continue to improve HPD’s emergency response capabilities. The MSOC provides surveillance and communications equipment necessary for operational coordination and critical information-sharing with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and other public safety agencies.

The upgraded system is secure for the current threat landscape and adaptable to meet evolving security needs. New MSOC technologies also align with the cybersecurity priorities set by the USCG Sector New Orleans Captain of the Port. Port NOLA continues to be a key partner in national security efforts, regularly collaborating with local, state and federal agencies to ensure that its facilities and operations meet the highest standards of safety and preparedness.

Port NOLA has secured $2,502,827 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding through its Port Security Grant Program since 2022 to help protect critical port infrastructure from terrorism, major disasters, or other emergencies.
